MAPA 2.0
MAPA 2.0 development is currently underway at Dynamic Diagrams.
Here are examples of improvements made to the map applet and visualization.
The new Z-factor visualization applet window or area is still a fixed size, but the entire map is now drawn at once, regardless of the number of pages being represented.
There is no longer a MORE button to show additional pages that did not fit into the applet window.
The map can now be repositioned in the applet display area by dragging in any direction with the mouse to display any portion of the map that is drawn outside of the display area.
The following are some examples of custom uses of this visualization.
- Integrated map and link list

Java.Sun.Com

|
|
In this example the map applet and the link list are on a single page,
integrated with the design elements of the website being mapped.
The entire map/link list is a scrolling page.
Recentering the map involves redrawing the page to refresh both the map and the link list.
There is no animated transition.
|
- New transitions
-
 |
|
|
|
This example shows the new animated transition.
Unlike the current MAPA applet, which moves only some other pages,
all pages in the first map that will become part of the second map remain on the screen at all times.
The color of the "carpets" grouping the pages now reflect the structure of the pages.
In the first part of the transition, the pages not in the new map sink into the old carpets.
Then the new carpets appear.
The old pages now move into position.
The new pages rise up from the carpets.
Once everything is in place, the colors of the pages transform to reflect their new positions.

In this example the map applet and the link list are in separate frames on a single page.
The map is a fixed area and the link list is a scrolling frame on the page.
Recentering the map invokes an animated transition of the map and refreshing of the link list.
The two displays are always synchronized.
